Ikebana | Japanese Gardens | Bonsai

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Ikebana (Japanese: 生 花) literally means "living flowers" and is also called kadō (華 道 or 花道), the way of the flowers.

Where in the West it is mainly about the quality of flowers, Ikebana focuses on creating a beautiful composition. Think of rhythm, use of color and lines, bringing together inside and outside, culture with nature. The use of different flowers and plants emphasizes that nature even more.

The Japanese ikebana tradition has many schools and styles, including Moribana, Ikenobo, Ohara, Sogetsu and Ichiyo.

The idea behind the Japanese garden is that a perfected, natural-looking landscape is created. The visitor sees hills, trees, moss, waterfalls, rocks, islands and bridges. Koi fish and turtles can often be found in the water. The gardens are intended for walks and contemplation. Lanterns have been placed in many gardens, which are usually made of stone and placed in a concealed position. During a walk you can see different parts of the garden.
